Hocus Pocus – 16 Pieces

People say music’s the universal language. Even so, you’ve much more chance of being heard if you hail from an English speaking country… more still if said country’s either England or the USA. It’s a shame really, because it means that acts such as Hocus Pocus will fall under the radar for many.

20syl is the talented producer, DJ and emcee behind Hocus Pocus, along with fellow band members DJ Greem, David Deunff, Antoine Saint-Jean, Hervé Godard and Matthieu Lelièvre, and whilst 16 Pieces has been out in France since last year, its English release is still forthcoming (June). The LP focuses on the funk and soul influence to hip hop to great effect, and draws influence from 20syl’s other major project, the DMC Team Championship dominating group C2C for a lesson in tasteful scratching which doesn’t define the record but instead exists harmoniously in the record’s sound. The phrase ‘it’s easy to make something sound difficult, but difficult to make something sound easy’ comes to mind.

The lead single for the English release is Beautiful Losers ft Alice Russell, which has been given a lovely video…
